Physics-Mathematics
The study of Physics focuses on understanding the basic laws of nature and demonstrates the close relationship between Physics and the emergence of new technologies. Mathematics and Statistics are powerful problem-solving tools as well as very creative disciplines, combining intuition, precision, imagination and logic. Recent discoveries in Mathematics and Physics have led to inventions we could no longer live without.
Your bidisciplinary degree in Physics-Mathematics is ideal preparation for a career in research and development, designing or fine-tuning optoelectronic lasers, new materials, semi- and supra-conductors, nanostructures, scientific instrumentation, and digital modeling techniques, for example. Your degree will also open doors in administration, management, teaching, IT, systems analysis, accounting, investment and cryptography.
CO-OP placements in Physics consist mainly of research positions, either at the University of Ottawa or another university, or with the National Research Council of Canada. For that reason, it is important to maintain a solid cumulative grade point average. You could also do financial analyses, prepare statistical reports, join a software development team, design surveys, or do encryption.
