International Development and Globalization

By providing you with a solid background in fields such as political science, sociology, history and economics, this multidisciplinary program gives you a deeper understanding of the issues that shape international development and globalization. The knowledge you acquire in this program will enable you to propose better solutions to some of the myriad challenges facing the international players in these areas.

The program in International Development and Globalization is your passport to an international career, either in the field of development or as an expert on globalization. Human rights, sustainable development, environmental protection, the fight against HIV-AIDS, and refugee intervention are only some of the areas in which you can apply your new knowledge. To qualify as an expert, we recommend you specialize in a particular issue or geographic region. The University of Ottawa`s new Master`s program in Globalization and International Development is another wonderful opportunity for you.

Most of the CO-OP placements in this program are made in the National Capital Region, home to organizations like the Canadian International Development Agency, and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. Bilingualism is often a prerequisite for these positions. Non-governmental organizations offer very few placements. To rise above the fierce competition in the field, you may have to volunteer or even pay a fee to participate in projects outside Canada.
